Mining Meisspelling

Mining Meisspelling is a commissioned work for the exhibition ‘Poetics of Prompting’. Dyslexia is a magical way of handling words and expressing things: it rearranges the world of letters. Dyslexia is not always immediately apparent—until it emerges—a neabry way of spelling. With mining meisspelling this work looks at the histroy of how English is standardised and the imperialsisms that determine normative ways of spelking, spelling, and articuilating. It puts the experience of dyslexia at the centre and takes veissitors through the (resistance to) correction and the questioning of what is or is not comprehensible. By looking at our shared experiences with spellcheck tools, the work traces the histories of an algorithm that would be better used if it was looking for magic.
